What’s a Girl Gotta Do? by Holly Bourne
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH.
I did buy this almost an entire year ago, and it’s been over a year since I read How Hard Can Love Be?, but it didn’t stop me thoroughly enjoying this. Just… Yesssssss, Lottie. Yessss. She is every cool feminist at my sixth form, and I desperately want to be her or be her girlfriend.
Lottie is the ultimate feminist of ultimate amazingness, and she really spoke to me. She’s funny, clever and not willing to put up with any bullshit. Also, she’s a great role model, at least in my eyes. Her unwillingness to back down and keep being herself even when people are looking at her negatively makes for such a great person, really.
The plot of this book also really excited me, it reminded me a little of The Manifesto, and I could see parallels in some aspects of the stories. This book is definitely my favourite in The Spinster Club series, it ends so perfectly and it’s everything I could ever wish for.
I really love the development that Evie and Amber’s stories got within this too, though. I do miss them, and I really want to re-read their own novels, but it was lovely to get to hear about them again, albeit not from within their own heads.
I wish Holly would write more stories on these characters, even though I know their stories are over. Although, fanfiction is a thing…
